By working for the public service, you can hold a student job linked to your education program while you study. You can do full-time work in the summer and work part time (up to 14 hours per week) during the school year.
To apply for a student job with the Québec government, you must verify your eligibility
and register with Online Placement
. You must post your student candidacy every year.
Placement étudiant works with Québec government departments and agencies to promote the hiring and integration of students in specific target groups (Anglophones, Native people, members of cultural communities, and disabled persons).
Drawing on a bank of student applicants, government departments and agencies select candidates in a random, impartial manner based on the field of study required and the workplace region.
For instance, if a position as an information officer requiring studies in communications is offered in the Montréal region, the department will select at random, from among all the student candidates, those registered in a bachelor’s program in communications in the Montréal region. The candidate may be selected from among all registered students or from those having reached a particular level if the position so requires it.
